Newport News Green Foundation elects Jim Erickson to board

NEWPORT NEWS, VA –  At its February 14, 2018 meeting, the Newport News Green Foundation elected Jim Erickson to its board.   Jim is an environmental engineering manager at Newport News Shipbuilding.  A Minnesota native, he holds a bachelor’s degree in construction management from North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota and a master’s in business administration from Regis University in Denver, Colorado.  Jim’s diverse experience in the construction and environmental remediation industries includes managing projects such as the construction of a LEED platinum visitor center at a former Department of Energy site, construction of hazardous waste landfills, and restoration of wetlands and streams.

Prior to relocating to Newport News nearly 2 years ago, Jim and his family lived in Colorado for 21 years and then spent 7 years in Paducah, Kentucky.  In Paducah, Jim was active in the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce and was a founding member of the Paducah Racial Unity Group.

“Jim’s experience as an environmental engineer is very valuable to the Foundation as we look to acquire and revitalize blighted properties in the city,” Sharyn Fox, president of the Foundation, noted. “We are particularly excited for his knowledge in the restoration of wetlands as we work with the City and our schools to protect and educate about the importance of these areas.”
