NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Newport News Green Foundation is proud to announce the following businesses as the 2017 Green Award Winners:

South District:  St. James Terrace Apartments

Central District:  W.J. Smith and Son Funeral Home

North District:  CarMax Auto Superstore

Maintenance Award:  Colony Animal Hospital

In 2008, the Board of Directors of the Newport News Green Foundation established the Green Awards to recognize businesses throughout the city that maintain landscaping which enhances the beauty of Newport News.  Green Award recipients set an example for the community and encourage others to make a visible difference in our city.

In 2016, the Board of Directors authorized two additional awards, the Maintenance Award and the People’s Choice Award.  The Maintenance Award recognizes a past Green Award recipient for continued efforts to maintain their landscape and visually enhance the city.

The People’s Choice award is an opportunity for the citizens to pick their favorite property from the four award recipients through a Facebook poll running on the Foundation’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/nngreenfoundation) from September 18th to the 22nd.  This year’s award is sponsored by Canon Virginia, Inc. and will be presented to the winner at the Foundation’s annual Party at the Pond event on September 27th.

An independent 501(c)3 nonprofit, charitable organization, The Newport News Green Foundation works to enhance the quality of life in Newport News by preserving, transforming, and promoting green spaces throughout the city.  Its annual fundraiser, the Party at the Pond will be held from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Foundation’s premier property, Chatham Trail, located at 401 Chatham Drive.  For more information on the Newport News Green Foundation please visit www.nngreen.com.
